Can't Lose Weight? It’s Not Your Fault - Find Out The Causes

The growing concern many people have today is the fact that they can't seem to lose weight no matter what they try. Dieting and exercise are not helping with stubborn weight-loss.

Below you will find several key reasons why you are finding it difficult to lose those unwanted pounds. The root of the problem is not in the calorie counts, but the cells themselves:

Problem Number One: Leptin-resistance.
The bodies no longer knows how to turn off hunger and process fat. Net result: The body hangs on tight to the fat that's already there.

Here are 4 warning signs you may be Leptin Resistant
1) You store excess fat around your belly
2) You lose weight then gain it back quickly
3) You are always hungry
4) You crave sugary foods or carbs

If you experience any of or all of these warning signs, your may have Leptin resistance and your body may be cheating you out of your weight loss goals.

Problem Number Two: Insulin Resistance-
Obesity is often triggered and perpetuated by metabolic and hormonal imbalances that create a viscous cycle of chronic dysglycemia, reduced thermo genesis, and altered fat production. This type of chronic metabolic dysregulation can make it very difficult to lose weight effectively without first addressing key functional imbalances.

Glucose and insulin are primary players in the etiology of obesity. The balance between glucose and insulin in the blood can influence levels of leptin, the "hunger hormone" believed to play a strong role in regulating human appetite and metabolism.
Insulin is released in response to rising blood glucose, and transports glucose to cells, where it can be used for fat production. So it comes as no surprise that upper body fat and abdominal obesity are strongly associated with "insulin resistance," a condition that arises when cell receptors resist insulin's attempt to deposit glucose, resulting in hyperinsulinemia, a state of chronically high levels of insulin.

In fact, some researchers have suggested that consistently high insulin levels, both fasting and after eating, may actually instigate the metabolic process associated with obesity by increasing lipid levels in the blood.

Glucose levels are also very important. Disruption of glucose metabolism
can lead to bouts of hypoglycemia (periods of low blood sugar), which are often accompanied by intense cravings for foods and sweets. This imbalance may then promote an unhealthy pattern of binge and/or over-eating that encourages obesity and further perpetuates more glucose imbalances.

Chronically high levels of glucose, which may arise from overeating carbohydrates, including sugars and alcohol, or from poor glucose control, can cause a reaction which alters the normal structure of proteins in the blood. This process, called glycation, creates potentially degenerative products that are believed to underlay the development of diabetes, accelerated aging, and neuro degenerative disease. Hemoglobin A1c and fructosamine are two markers of this process, and monitoring their levels is crucial for effectively preventing the cascade of physiologically destructive events that may either trigger or arise from chronic obesity.

Stress Hormones Are Sabotaging Your Weight Loss Efforts
The hormones cortisol, DHEA, and IGF-1, serve as important endocrine markers for preventing and treating obesity. Imbalances of these hormones are closely linked with insulin dysregulation. They are also directly linked to changes in the body's fat production. Optimal DHEA and IGF-1 levels promote increased lean body mass, increased energy production, and decreased fat.
5-8 Excess cortisol levels, on the other hand, are known to stimulate increased blood sugar production, stimulating fat deposits in the face, neck and trunk regions, and an "apple-shaped" obesity.

The balance between the adrenal hormones DHEA and cortisol also ensures that the body is adapting to stress in a healthy manner. Monitoring adrenal balance is particularly important when addressing obesity linked to stress-related eating disorders.12,13

PROBLEM NUMBER THREE: What You Eat May Sabotaging Weight Loss Efforts

If you’re trying to lose weigh cutting back carbohydrates and sugar is important. Many people think that sugar is only found in junk food, however, this is not the case – sugar is found in many products, some of which may be surprising to you. If you’re cutting junk food out of your diet and you still can’t seem to lose weight, perhaps you should look at some sneaky places where sugar may be hiding and cut those foods out of your diet too.

Sugar is a type of carbohydrate. It’s sweet and tasty and has 16 calories per teaspoon. There are two main types of sugar:

- Naturally occurring sugars found in vegetables, fruits and milk
- Added sugar which is found in a lot of junk food and processed foods

Reading nutrition labels to determine where the calories are coming from can get confusing because sugar has multiple names including: table sugar, confectioner’s sugar, powdered sugar, molasses, brown sugar, cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc. Additionally, the chemical name for sugar is sucrose so you may see that on labels too. Sugar that is found in milk products is called lactose and sugar that is found in fruit is called fructose. When you’re looking at a nutrition label, if you see the ending “-ose”, it is likely sugar. No wonder it’s so hard to keep track of all the places where sugar may be hiding!

Sugar and Extra Calories are Hiding in Strange Places!

It’s no surprise that sugar is in junk food such as cakes, cookies, pastries, etc. but there are also a lot of places that may surprise you including:

1. Jarred Tomato Sauce – home-made tomato sauce is not only healthier, but it usually tastes better to. You can cut the amount of calories in home-made sauce by skipping the addition of sugar to the sauce.

2. Fruit Juice Cocktails – these juices are packed with calories that come from sugar. Reach for a glass of water instead.

3. Low Fat Salad Dressing – fat free dressing usually has added sugar to replace fatty oils. Try making your own salad dressing using extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. Also, to control the calories, limit the amount of dressing you put on your salad to one tablespoon.

4. Smoothies (store bought) – to decrease the calories consumed from sugar, either make your own smoothie at home using fresh fruit and plain yogurt or dairy or custom order your smoothie to decrease the juice content which is where the most of the sugar is found.

5. Cereals – cereals, even the ones that are marketed as “healthy” contain large amounts of sugar to improve the favor. Look at the nutrition labels and pick cereals that do not contain high amounts of sugar. You can always add fresh fruit or nuts to the cereal to give it more flavor.

6. Flavored Yogurt –the fruit or preserves that are added to give yogurt favor is packed with sugar. Opt for plain yogurt and cut up fresh fruit to mix in for favor.

Most of the above-mentioned products are marketed as healthy choices. However, the manufacturers add sugar to them to make them taste better. By adding sugar the calories from unhealthy carbohydrates skyrockets. Other foods that have an abundance of sugar include: frozen dinners, canned fruits and vegetables, breads, and sauces, granola bars and the list goes on. Be sure to read labels carefully and try to limit sugar consumption.

When you’re trying to lose weight there are so many factors you need to look at. Cutting junk food out of your diet is an obvious way to cut calories, but you still may be struggling to lose weight. Try cutting out some of the sneaky foods mentioned about to reduce calories that are coming from sugar. You may notice that you drop excess pounds much faster by eliminating these sugary foods.
