Joint
pain in rheumatoid arthritis can be directly triggered by the release
of inflammatory mediators like leukotrienes, whose production is
dependant upon the body's balance of essential and metabolic fatty
acids. A recent report presented at the British Society for Immunology
Annual Congress in Brighton thus emphasized the importance of certain
dietary fatty acids for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, based
on the ability of these fatty acids to reduce the immune system's
inflammatory response.1
By
increasing the levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the body, several
studies have noted an improvement in inflammary conditions associated
with rheumatoid arthritis, without any serious side effects.2,3
In addition, a large-scale research project that compared women
with rheumatoid arthritis with thousands of healthy controls supported
the proposition that omega-3 fatty acids may actually help prevent
development of the disease.4
The
Essential and Metabolic Fatty Acids Analysis uncovers fatty acid imbalances that may be aggravating inflammatory
conditions associated with rheumatoid arthritis. It's also crucial
for gauging the effectiveness of fatty acid supplementation, and
can reveal inborn metabolic conversion errors that may be preventing
a patient from achieving optimal levels, even with adequate dietary
amounts.
