GASTROINTESTINAL ASSESSMENTS: |
|
Assessments
of gastrointestinal function include the renowned Comprehensive Digestive
Stool Analysis and several other tests and panels yielding important
information about the ecology of the GI tract, including intestinal
wall integrity, small bowel bacterial overgrowth, yeast presence,
immune function, parasite activity, specific intolerances, Helicobacter
infection, and vaginal health.
The gastrointestinal (gut) system serves the dual function of absorbing
needed nutrients from food while at the same time preventing toxins
and disease-causing organisms from entering the rest of the body. Living
within the gut are millions of "friendly" bacteria that
that convert food into easily absorbed nutrients. When the levels
of these bacteria are diminished, "unfriendly" bacteria
can take hold and cause problems. The role of "gatekeeper"
belongs to the gut lining. The lining acts as a selective barrier
allowing nutrients to be absorbed while keeping out harmful substances. If
the lining is damaged, its ability to perform this vital task us impaired,
often resulting in symptoms and or disease.
