Each 3 oz. container of Progensa Plus contains an average 480 mg.
per ounce of Natural Progesterone USP grade. Progensa cream is made from
natural ingredients (no fragrances used). It is non-oily, does not leave
a residue on the skin, and it has extremely effective absorption qualities.
Under normal usage, the 3 oz. container will last two months or more.
Progensa Plus is slightly different than progesterone cream alone in
that the phytoestrogens (ginseng extract and burdock root) which are
the "Plus" in Progensa Plus actually help a little more with
hot flashes than progesterone cream alone.
If you are looking for a progesterone only cream without an phytoestrogens
in it, check out our companion product, Progensa 20 Natural Progesterone
Cream.
Progensa Plus contains all natural ingredients, including, grape seed
extract (a natural preservative), aloe vera, vitamin E and primrose oil
all enhance the performance of natural progesterone when it is applied
to the skin. The Progensa cream is sealed in an airtight clinical hygienic
pump to protect the cream from losing its potency. This unique airtight
pump container protects the ingredients in Progensa from oxidation and
ensures the potency of the natural progesterone.
Most pharmaceutical grade progesterone is made from diogensin found
in wild yams. Diosgenin is found in other plants as well but not in amounts
significant enough to be of value. Diosgenin is converted into natural
progesterone scientifically. There are no enzymes in the human body that
will convert diosgenin, which is the active component of wild yams into
progesterone. You can eat or rub on your skin all of the wild yam extract
you like but the body will not convert it to progesterone. Diosgenin
is still very useful in the body, however, and has been used by phytotherapists
for centuries as an adaptagen. Whatever the effects of wild yam, it does
not have the same benefits as natural progesterone.
Many companies sell wild yam products containing diosgenin stating that
they provide the same benefits as progesterone. It is also added to many
genuine progesterone creams in which it is usually identified as "wild
yam extract". However there is usually not enough diosgenin in these
creams to have much of an effect. Thus, many women using a wild yam cream
have stated that they just don't seem to feel any change. Most of the
research that has been done on progesterone demonstrates that it is supplemental
natural progesterone that will produce an increase in saliva and serum
levels of progesterone, not yam extract.
There has been considerable "hype" about all of the potential
health benefits of progesterone cream applied to the skin. Here is what
the medical scientific studies using randomized clinical trials show:
Hot flashes have been shown to be significantly improved by use of progesterone
cream but osteoporosis may not be prevented at doses commonly used
(1)If you are taking estrogen replacement after the menopause, progesterone
cream does not protect the uterine lining (endometrium) from risk of
cancer.
(2)Progesterone is definitely absorbed into the blood stream by skin
cream applications but blood level and saliva measurement of progesterone
is not reliable due to the variable levels absorbed. Saliva levels are
much higher than blood levels
(3, 4)Who should use progesterone topical skin cream?
(Dr. Rick Jelovsek's recommendations)
Women who have had a hysterectomy and have undergone natural or surgical
menopause who do not wish to take estrogen replacement but who are having
problems with hot flashes
Women who have not had the uterus removed but have undergone natural
menopause and do not wish to take any estrogen replacement Women who
are perimenopausal who are not taking prescription estrogens or birth
control pills but who are having hot flashes and wish some relief.
All women who use topical skin progesterone cream should still take supplemental
calcium (1000-1500 mg a day) to help prevent osteoporosis.
How to use
Each push of the pump dispenses approximately 20 mg of progesterone.
The studies on hot flashes showed significant reduction at 20 mg a day.
Therefore the dose each day should be the cream from one push of the
pump rubbed on the skin. Dr. Jelovsek recommends using the cream on a
daily basis rather than cyclical use as recommended by others.
Self-Dosing
Progensa Plus natural progesterone cream for women is easily and quickly
absorbed into the body so you can apply it almost anywhere with success.
We recommend that you rotate the areas you apply it, to avoid saturating
any one area. It is best absorbed where the skin is relatively thin and
well supplied with capillary blood flow, such as the face, neck, upper
chest, breasts, inner arms and inner thighs and wrists.
Apply and massage into your skin until it is noticeably absorbed. Natural
progesterone cream should not be applied over top of other body creams
or perfumes as this may interfere with proper absorption.
Progensa Plus is manufactured by AllVia Integrative Pharmaceuticals,
Inc, Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
