Growth
hormone is produced in the pituitary gland, and clinical studies
have shown its effectiveness in guarding against much of the physical
degeneration caused by aging. Growth hormone plays an important
role in brain function by influencing the fluid levels of brain
neurotransmitters and the age-related decline in cerebral blood
flow.1,2
Several studies have found a relationship
between cognitive impairment and growth
hormone deficiency, suggesting that growth
hormone can serve as an important hormonal
marker of degenerative dementia.3,4
Secreted by the liver in response to
growth hormone, IGF-1 is the only dependable
indicator of bioavailable growth hormone.
The
IGF-1 Assessment can also be used to assess
the protective status of IGF-1 on skin, cardiovascular,
bone, muscle and nerve function as a patient ages.
